PSP).
We are happy to arrange pick up of ink, phones etc for any person or business who can not access the recycle sites.
May 2002, Linda Oman established our
program with Recyclefirst, recycling inkjet and laser (toner) cartridges. She
became aware of the program by Marie Sisk through her link with the South Shore
District/Federation. Collection was directed at club membership and collected at
monthly meetings. Postage free mailing bags were also available for direct
mailing of inkjet cartridges. The larger cartridges were mailed by Linda to
Recyclefirst in postage free boxes.
· 2004, Joyce Kleinrath took over recycling responsibilities for the
club.
· 2005, we started recycling cell phones and accessories with Recyclefirst, in
addition to the large and small ink cartridges.
· May 2006, WHGC established two public collection sites in Hanover at the Town
Transfer Station and in the lower level of Town Hall. The program was marketed
as an ecology program and a fundraiser that would benefit all the townspeople.
Funds were returned to our plantings on traffic islands and on other town
properties. Our program was featured in the Patriot Ledger and notices appeared
in the Hanover Mariner.
· Spring 2007, the program continued to grow. We were more visible at Hanover
Day at the WHGC site, offering information and free recycling bags to the
public. The following month, Recyclefirst informed us that they would no longer
be able to use the “bag-it” program due to postage costs. Minus the “bag-it”
program, all recycled items would be sent to Recyclefirst in bulk.
· November 2007, we were informed by Recyclefirst that they will no longer be
able to pay commissions on inkjet or toner cartridges. They would be able to
accept all cartridges and provide postage free boxes/shipping. Their explanation
was that there was no longer a market for those items. They continue to pay
commissions on cell phones.
· December 2007, we established a connection with Cartridge World in Weymouth.
They pay commissions on some inkjet and/or toner cartridges. They accept the
cartridges anytime the store is open. They can also arrange for pick up with
advance notice. They do not have a price sheet. We are tracking what has been
submitted and should be receiving some compensation shortly. This is a
transition program that lets us continue our efforts with these products without
interrupting our established donations. We continue to recycle the cell phones
through Recyclefirst.
