Alien Plants of the South Shore by Peter Alden. February

Alden, an author of fifteen books and a conservationist will focus on
identifying the invasive plants of our area. During his slide show he will offer
control options that are available through education, legislation and
co-operation. This
meeting is open to the public, so feel free
to invite friends, neighbors and family members. Don’t

a popular speaker is co-owner of Tranquil Lake Nursery in Rehoboth. He will
discuss the principles of color, balance, line, proportion and repetition relied
upon to create an interesting

arrangements are truly appreciated by both staff and clients. MEMBERSHIP Reminder:
According to our yearbook: ‘Active members serve on at least one committee
each year, hostess at one meeting each year, pay annual dues and attend at least
5 meetings or workshops a year’. We are now at the half way point in our club
year. This leaves 5 more scheduled meetings for members to fulfill their
attendance requirement. In order to be credited for attending, don’t forget to
sign in with Ellen Butler at the membership desk provided at each meeting. NOMINATING
COMMITTEE The
nominating committee is responsible for naming members to fill vacancies on the
board as the terms of current members expire. At the February meeting, the
president will ask for 2 volunteer to fill the upcoming committee va-cancies.
Once this nominating committee is complete, the nominating process will begin to
fill the following board positions: 1st

(Nutsey News) Hospitality The
new board for the 2009-2010 year will be instrumental in the success of the
club’s agen-a for the next 2 years. Please consider actively
participating in the club by filling one of these board vacancies. Any active
member who has been in the club for one full year is eligible for a board
position. COMMUNITY
GARDEN COMMITTEE UPDATE The
group’s next meeting is Feb 5, 6:30 pm at the Hanover Police Station. All
interested WHGC members are encouraged to attend to continue the planning, discussion
and benefits of a Community Garden to all Hanover resi-dents. The
group has also agreed to sponsor a public lecture on March 10th featuring Jon
Belber to speak on organic gardening and community gardens in particular. (The
Cedar School has requested School Com-mittee approval to start their own
educational organic garden and it is hoped Center will do likewise.) LOCAL
INTEREST Kennedy’s
Country Gardens on RT3A in Scituate is featuring a ‘Winterfest 2009’ on
February 14-16, an ‘Arts Fest 2009’ on Feb-ruary 21-22
and a Perennial Lecture on April 15, 2009. If you wish to attend call them or go

Flower & Garden Show February 19-22, has 30 gardens, & lectures
& demonstra-tions and floral arrangements by the GC Fed-eration. Advance
ticket price is $17.00 and the advance group price is $13. The show is at the
