Spring blooming Trees- CRABAPPLES. Apple scab, cedar-apple rust and fireblight are three diseases that attack crabapples. If buying a new tree pick disease resistant varieties. Here's a couple: MALUS 'TINA': Smallest crabapple, white flowers, pink buds. Grafted on a 3 1/2' standard. MALUS 'PRAIRIEFIRE': Flaming cherry red flowers, later than other crabapples, with persistent fruit. Beautiful foliage stays on the tree till fall. Upright growth, becoming rounded.18'. May 3: PUBLIC INVITATION TO TRANQUIL LAKE'S SPRING GARDENING FESTIVAL Saturday 9 AM to 4 PM. Books in Bloom! We still have a few openings for our fabulous Books in Bloom event scheduled for June 20th! If you have already registered to participate in Books in Bloom, remember our two EXHIBITORS MEETING / WORKSHOP nights which will help you with ideas for books, materials, creativity and presentation…Come as you are…(no materials necessary)
#1 This coming Tuesday night – April 29th at 7:30 at the Phoenix Lodge (our regular meeting place) and #2 Thursday, May 15th at 7:30 also at the Phoenix Lodge. (Note the change in date for the 2nd workshop night – we had a conflict with Town Meeting) Even if you have not signed up for a spot in Books in Bloom, you are welcome to come and enjoy the evening!

They said this plant was pink but oh did my heart sink... the cute little fellow was orange & yellow May Board Meeting - Tuesday, May 20th at 7:30 p.m. at the Phoenix Lodge. June Meeting - Garden Party June 3rd, 2003 @ 5:30 p.m. Note Change of Location to Jim Johnson - 34 Broadway - Hanover June Board Meeting - Tuesday, June 17th, 7:30 p.m. at the Phoenix Lodge - this is a combined Board Meeting for outgoing and the incoming board members for 2003/2004. Reminder . . . Hanover Clean Up Week - April 28th - May 2nd. Board Nominations are enclosed, please review. Voting for the Board will take place at the May meeting. Junior Gardeners - There will be a meeting on Tuesday, May 6th, 2003 @ 2:30 p.m. - we will make a secret garden. The workshop will be held at 24 Beechnut Circle - Hanover. Please contact Marie Sisk if your Junior Gardeners will be attending. Geranium Sale - There will be a sign up for Geraniums at our May meeting. If pre-ordered, plants must be picked up at Mugsie Sarson’s Nelson Office Supply on Winter Street Friday, May 16th. Point of purchase sales are Saturday, May 17th at 9:00 a.m. at the Town Hall. Please call Kathy Murray or Sandra Woodward if you want to pre-order. SAVE the date - June 20th & 21st for “BOOKS in BLOOM” at the new John Curtis Library. We will need plenty of hostesses, designers, and refreshments - see attachment for more details on workshops for design work. Start your creative ideas flowing! Workshops on going to be held Tuesday, April 29th & Thursday, May 15th at 7:30 p.m. at the Phoenix Lodge - All members are welcome to attend. Attendance - REMINDER to all . . . TWO club meetings remain this year, be sure to fulfill your membership responsibilities by attending 5 out of 10 per year in order to continue your membership in good standing. As always, it’s great to see our meetings well attended! Be sure to take a trip in to Boston to the Museum of Fine Arts, “Art in Bloom” is scheduled for April 27th-29th - this is an awesome event to take in! Membership Dues & Interest Finders - You should have received a WHGC Interest Finder under separate cover. Please take a moment to review and complete and bring it to the auction along with your check for 2003/2004 WHGC dues or mail directly to Deb Zawalich. Please contact Lorraine Leitch ASAP, if you do not plan on renewing your club membership. The information you provide will help the club to plan programs, speakers, workshops, fieldtrips that suit the needs and desires of our membership. Choose the committees that you would like to serve or - otherwise, the club will place you on one so be sure to include times and days you are available. Other Interests Relay for Life - Thank you to all who signed up to walk in the Relay for Life on June 13th & 14th. Further information will be available at the May 13th meeting. |
