Country Victorian Garden

A lovely pastel border encircles the bounds of this lovingly restored 1890's Victorian home. Beginning in 1990 with just three large shade trees bisecting the rear grounds, and little else, the current owners have enthusiastically introduced hundreds of perennials, unusual annuals, flowering trees and shrubs to the landscape. All the design, digging and maintenance have been accomplished personally by these true "do-it-yourselfers"! The soft yellow of this classic Victorian farmhouse shows off the foundation plantings to their best advantage.

The lady of the house starts many perennials from seed which affords these gardeners the opportunity to have varieties on display not commonly seen in this area. The garden is enhanced with beautiful hand-carved signs and a handmade dovecote that serves as a focal point in the extensive pastel perennial border. A shade garden tucked around the back corner offers much to enjoy. Rose-lovers should not miss the blooms on the Victorian arbor nor the rosewalk at the entrance to this garden. Make yourself comfortable on one of the many shaded benches or garden seats and imagine yourself in another era!   K.B.P.
