Photo copyright Shirley Minott When the owners purchased their home, there was virtually no landscaping or gardens. Everything you see is the result of a 17 year labor of love. The side perennial garden has grown in size over the years and changed in focus. The passion for collecting the unusual has shifted, in part, to growing plants suitable for floral arranging. The garden itself is approached as "one big floral design" with an attempt to achieve balance and rhythm with the repetition of colors and textures. Statuary and the use of annuals (with a fondness for coleus) help to achieve this goal. In the back yard, emphasis is on low-maintenance with ornamental shrubs combined with hosta and daylilies. The patio features containers filled with annuals which provide a big splash of color throughout the season. S.M. |
