April Meeting - Tuesday, April 2nd @ 7:30 p.m. at the Phoenix Masonic Temple. “Succession of Bloom” presented by Ginny Ballou. This program will help all gardeners in the quest for continuous bloom throughout the Summer. We will learn how to combine bulbs, perennials and annuals. Enclosed with this newsletter is a list of the Board nominations for 2002-2003. This slate of officers will be presented at the April meeting. Voting for the Board will take place at the May meeting. We are planning field trips for the next couple of months. Information about the dates and destinations will be available at the April meeting. The Mattakeesett Garden Club of Pembroke will host an Evening Tea and program “Notable & Notorious Women” on Tuesday, April 9th, 2002 - 7:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room of the Pembroke Public Library, Center Street, Route 14 - Pembroke. A $5.00 guest fee is requested and please bring your own teacup come enjoy the event and refreshments. Hanover Clean-Up Week is April 22-26th All club members are encouraged to participate in the annual Hanover Clean-up Week by picking up trash along the roadsides and near your home. The June plant sale date has been changed to June 1st, 2002 - more details to follow. Attendance - REMINDER to all . . . Five club meetings remain this year, be sure to fulfill your membership responsibilities by attending 5 out of 10 per year in order to continue your membership in good standing. The Massachusetts Horticultural Society announces the GOLD MEDAL AWARD TO THE GARDEN CLUB FEDERATION OF MASSACHUSETTS for the DESIGN DIVISION OF A STANDARD FLOWER SHOW "BEDAZZLED - THE ALLURE OF COLOR" SHIRLEY MINOTT, CHAIRMAN Walnut Hill Garden Club has been notified by Bobbie Lingard, Staging Chair for the 2002 New England Spring Flower Show that the work that Shirley Minott did as Chairman of the Design Division for the Garden Club Federation Of MA has entitled the Federation to be awarded the Gold Medal from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. The award is being announced March 22, 2002 and will be awarded in two months at an elaborate awards ceremony. A CLUB AWARD The mantel display competition brought WHGC a first place award. The team consisted of Lorraine Gaysunas, Ava Rothwell, Gina Kimito, Fran Hahn, Meredith Conrad and Sue Vaille. Geranium Sale at Hanover Town Hall - Saturday, May 18th @ 9:00 a.m. “The Labor Exchange” - Club member, Doug Litchfield owner of Hillbilly Acres at 196 Old Oaken Bucket Road in Scituate, is looking for a few hours of labor in exchange for beautiful plants. Any worker bees, please call Doug at xxx -545-6621. May BOARD Meeting - Tuesday, May 21st @ 7:30 p.m., Phoenix Lodge. The Hanover Garden Club will be hosting an Experts Night the evening of April 18th at 7:30 p.m. at the Congregational Hall, please be sure to look for details in the Hanover Mariner. FOUND in the parking lot after the March meeting, a purple polar fleece pair of gloves - these will be at the April meeting if you have lost them. The following are proposed Amendments to the bylaws in order to accommodate out of town residents who have been on the waiting list for a long period of time. Discussion and voting will take place at the April meeting: Article II, Section 2 Former members who departed club in good standing and wish to rejoin. Article II, Section 4 Applications for membership from out of town residents that are placed on the waiting list will be wait listed for no more than 2 years. At that time, the application will be elevated to #3, other Hanover Residents, and placed on the list after residents who have been waiting 1 year.
