May 31, 1996 "Hanover Blooms", second of a series.
Painting by Donna Green, Arrangement by Shirley Minott WHGC received a state award from the Garden Club Federation of MA in Public Relations for this combination Flower and Art Show. Deborah Zawalich, President This was held in the Riley Hall, First Congregational Church, Hanover, MA Thirty -six artists form elementary to high school were showing work alongside full fledged professional artists of the local areas who donated artwork for the Friday evening event. Twenty-five Garden Club members created floral arrangements to accompany and interpret the artwork which was divided into categories. This was an immensely successful event, chaired by Kathy Murray and Deborah Billings under the direction of Deborah Zawalich. The proceeds benefited the John Curtis Library Fund. This project brought together the principles of the State Garden Club 1996 Garden Week and the promotion of the town library as a Garden Center. This idea of "Hanover Blooms" was originally conceived by Former Club President Marguerite Sarson when she headed a group in October 1989. The first showing was at The John Curtis Library with the proceeds being used for the landscaping around the newly installed handicap ramp. |
